Relay Services
Relay Colorado can connect you to anyone, anywhere, 24 hours a day 7 days a week!Text Telephone (TTY) to Voice
Text Telephone (TTY) users can type their conversation to a Relay Operator (OPR). The Relay Operator reads aloud the typed message to a standard phone user, whose spoken reply is then typed back to the TTY user by the Operator.
Instructions: How does TTY to Voice work?
- Dial the TTY number at 1-800-659-2656 or 711.
- Colorado Relay OPR will answer "RC XXXX (F) NUMBER CALLING PLEASE?" GA.
- Each Relay OPR has his/her own identification number which is rotated on a scheduled basis. (F) or (M) is the gender of the OPR.
- “GA” stands for "GO AHEAD" which means it's your turn to type.
- Type the area code and telephone number of the party you want to call.
- The Relay OPR will dial the number and relay the conversation to and from your TTY. Type "GA" at the end of each response.
Voice to Text Telephone (TTY)
Hearing individuals can use a standard phone or a cell phone to call TTY users. The Relay Operator types the spoken words of the standard phone user for the TTY user to read. The Relay Operator then reads aloud the typed responses from the TTY user.
Instructions: How does Voice to TTY work?
- Dial the voice number at 1-800-659-3656 or 711.
- You will hear the Colorado Relay OPR answer "Colorado Relay OPR XXXX. HOW MAY I HELP YOU?" Each Relay OPR has a unique identification number instead of a name, and this number is rotated on a scheduled basis.
- Give the Relay OPR the area code and telephone number of the party you wish to call. If there are any further instructions, you may give those to the Relay OPR as well.
- The Relay OPR will process your call, relaying exactly what the TTY user types to you, as well as exactly what you speak to the TTY user. Be sure to talk directly to the TTY user, avoiding "tell him/her..." At the end of each response you make, say "Go Ahead;" you will hear the same from the TTY user. This indicates that you've completed your response, and that it's the other party's turn to respond.
- At Relay Colorado, we offer communication choices to our relay callers. This allows them ways to connect with all of the people in their lives.
Telebraille
People with a visual disability can use relay services by using specially-equipped Telebraille TTY device. The text automatically comes across at a reduced speed on a Telebraille call, regardless of how fast the Relay Operator types. This allows Telebraille users to read at a comfortable pace. Callers can request an increase in the text pacing.
