Voice Carry-Over

VCO lets hard-of-hearing or deaf individuals speak in their own voice to a hearing person.

Voice Carry-Over (VCO)

VCO means the caller’s voice literally “carries” directly to the party on the other end. In this way, hard-of-hearing or deaf individuals can speak in their own voice to a hearing person. There is a Relay Operator on the call, who simply types every word spoken by the hearing person. These words appear as text on the TTY screen for a hard-of-hearing or deaf person to read and respond to.

Instructions

  1. Dial the VCO number, 1-877-659-8260.
  2. Relay OPR will answer "RC OPR XXXX (F) NUMBER CALLING PLEASE?" GA.
  3. Relay OPR XXXX is a Relay OPR identification number.
  4. Each Relay OPR has his/her own identification number which is rotated on a scheduled basis.
  5. (F) or (M) is the gender of the Relay OPR.
  6. GA is "go ahead" which means it's your turn to speak/type.
  7. Voice or type the area code and telephone number of the party you want to call.
  8. The Relay OPR will type "VOICE NOW" as your cue to start speaking.

You can speak directly to the person. The Relay OPR will not repeat what you say, but only type what the other person says back to you. You both will need to say "GA" at the end of your responses.

Two-Line Voice Carry-Over (2LVCO)

2LVCO allows a customer with either two telephone lines or one telephone line and one computer line to use one line for speaking directly to a standard telephone user while the other line is used to receive the called party's typed responses. This feature provides a more natural flow of conversation without the pauses of single-line calls.

Voice Carry-Over to Text Telephone

VCO to TTY. The Relay Operator types what the VCO user says to the TTY user and whatever the TTY user types goes directly to the VCO user's TTY or text display equipment to be read.

Voice Carry-Over to Voice Carry-Over

VCO to VCO provides a way for two VCO users to carry on a conversation in their own voices. The Relay Operator is on the relay call to type the words spoken by each party. In this way, both parties converse by reading text on their TTY screens and responding vocally.

Voice Carry-Over to Hearing Carry-Over (HCO)

VCO to HCO allows a VCO user to speak directly to a person who can hear but may have a speech disability. The VCO users voice will be heard by the HCO user and the typed response will be read by the VCO user.

VCO with Privacy

This is similar to the standard VCO feature, however the Relay Operator will not hear the VCO user's voice and will only type the standard (voice) telephone user's responses back to the VCO user. Request privacy by typing/voicing to the Relay Operator "Privacy ON." VCO users can then speak with the hearing party knowing that their side of the conversation is confidential.
